Renowned actor Louis Gossett Jr., celebrated for his contributions to the video game world through his role in Half-Life 2, has died at the age of 87. Known for lending his voice to the Vortigaunts in the esteemed Half-Life series, Gossett Jr.'s legacy spans an impressive array of performances across Broadway, television, and film. His death was announced on March 29, 2024, though the cause remains undisclosed.

With a career that stretched over seven decades, Gossett Jr. first made his mark on the stage before achieving widespread recognition for his on-screen roles. His breakout came in 1977 with an Emmy nomination for his performance in the groundbreaking TV miniseries Roots. He further cemented his status with roles in iconic TV series like The Jeffersons and Good Times. In 1982, his portrayal in An Officer and a Gentleman earned him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, making him the first African American man to receive this honor. More recently, in 2019, he appeared in the Watchmen TV series, playing the roles of Will Reeves and Hooded Justice.
