The upcoming Nintendo console, currently referred to as the Switch 2, is rumored to launch no sooner than March 2025. This information comes from a recent Nikkei report, which also divulged additional supposed insights into Nintendo's strategy for the new device.

Initially anticipated to debut in the latter half of 2024, expectations shifted when multiple reports in mid-February suggested the Switch 2's release had been postponed to 2025. This delay was purportedly communicated to Nintendo's key development partners, hinting at how the information was leaked.

Nikkei 's coverage, based on sources close to Nintendo, narrows the launch window to March 2025 but also hints at a potential delay if Nintendo's production capabilities aren't up to par at the time. The company aims to avoid the kind of shortages and subsequent price gouging that plagued the original Switch's release.

In terms of gaming content, the Switch 2 is projected to have a more robust lineup of first-party titles at launch compared to its forerunner. While the original Switch had a modest number of Nintendo-developed games at its launch, with "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" being the standout, the new console may aim for a stronger initial offering.

Design-wise, the Switch 2 is expected to maintain the hybrid concept of its predecessor, supporting both docked and handheld modes. This aligns with longstanding speculations and the rumored use of Nvidia's mobile system-on-chip technology, similar to the 2017 model.

Contrasting the original Switch's announcement and release timeline, the Switch 2 might have a longer lead time. Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, who initially reported on the internal delay, suggests that Nintendo could unveil the Switch 2 as early as June 2024.
