The shortage of video cards will remain until the end of 2021

In its latest address to investors, NVIDIA warned of expectations that the shortage for video cards will end by the end of 2021.

The news came ahead of the company's official 1st quarter earnings announcement, but NVIDIA CFO Colette Kress highlighted in her blog that stocks remain tight. It is also reported that demand will continue to outpace supply until the end of May. However, Kress says NVIDIA hopes supply will begin to grow in the coming months and will eventually meet demand in the new year.

This means that GPU shortages will continue despite what NVIDIA claims to have successfully launched the Ampere generation. It could also mean potential problems for the Nintendo Switch Pro, which will reportedly go into production in June for a release later this year.

The ongoing semiconductor shortage is to blame for numerous electronics inventory problems, most notably the persistently low inventory levels of the Xbox Series X {{S and PS5. AMD, the company that supplies hardware for all three consoles, previously said it expects the shortage to continue until the summer. So far, however, AMD has not made an appeal regarding this situation.
