Riot Games Unveils Updated LEC 2023 Ecosystem

Riot Games has unveiled a new European League of Legends ecosystem. Now the European League of Legends will become even larger and more diverse.

LEC 2023 format

LEC Winter 2023

The LEC 2023 Winter Split will start in January 2023. The draw will start with bo1 Round-Robin, which will last 3 weeks and after that the group stages for 8 teams will start with bo3 double-elimination format. In February of the same year, a playoff for 4 teams with double-elimination bo5 will be played.

LEC Spring 2023

The LEC 2023 Spring Split will start in March 2023. The formula for holding is similar to the winter one. The playoffs will take place in April 2023.

LEC Summer 2023

The start of the LEC 2023 Summer Split is scheduled for June 2023, after a month-long break. The playoffs of LEC Summer 2023 will be held in July of the same year.

The winner of each split will automatically receive a slot in the LEC Season Finals, which will take place in the summer. The best teams of the three draws will be joined by teams that have collected enough Championship Points. In total, 6 teams will play in the European finals.

In addition, Riot has redesigned the EU Master system, which will now be called EMEA Masters. Teams from 13 regional leagues will gather under the banner of this tournament. TCL and AL will join the list of 11 regional leagues.

Accredited Regional Leagues (ERLS)

  • TLC (new league) - Turkey, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
  • Superliga - Spain and Andorra.
  • Prime League - Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland.
  • La Ligue Française - France, Monaco.
  • Ultraliga - Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Israel.

Unaccredited Regional Leagues (ERLS)

  • Arabian League (new league) - Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, UAE.
  • Northern League of Legends Championship - UK, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Malta, Iceland.
  • PG Nationals - Italy, San Marino.
  • EBL - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Kosovo, Moldova.
  • Elite Series - Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg.
  • Liga Portuguesa De League of Legends – Portugal.
  • Greek Legends League - Greece, Cyprus.
  • Hitpoint Masters - Czech Republic, Slovakia.

Accredited teams have 10 residents each, while non-accredited teams have a home for 8 teams. Teams from the Arabian League will receive a place in the Play-In EMEA Masters.

Along with the overhaul of the competitive League of Legends system in 2023, Riot Games is abolishing the LCL. Former LCL members will be able to join teams from other leagues and receive equal resident rights.
