Overwatch 2 Hostage Situation: Players Held Captive in Grief-Stricken Quick Play Match

Ця стаття доступна наступними мовами

A squad of Overwatch 2 players found themselves trapped in an agonizing Quick Play match, held hostage by an enemy team that was not only superior in skill but also indulging in unsportsmanlike conduct. This distressing Overwatch 2 encounter stretched on for more than 30 minutes, thanks to the enemy team's disruptive behavior.

Quick Play mode in Overwatch 2 is intended to provide a casual gaming experience, where players face opponents of similar skill levels. Regrettably, not all Quick Play matches in Overwatch 2 result in fair competition, as the game's matchmaking system sometimes struggles to ensure balanced encounters.

Onion Head, a devoted Overwatch 2 fan, recently recounted their nightmarish Quick Play experience on Reddit. In this particular Overwatch 2 match, Onion Head and their team were confronted by opponents vastly more skilled. The enemy team cornered them in their spawn area, continuously eliminating them while purposefully refraining from capturing the objective. To make matters worse, when the match reached overtime, Onion Head's adversaries resorted to stepping on and off the capture point to extend the overtime timer for an additional 10 minutes. After enduring this torment for half an hour, Onion Head eventually abandoned the match, only to face a 30-minute suspension from re-queuing for another game.

The enemy team had effectively turned the match into a one-sided slaughter. The images shared by Onion Head revealed an astonishing number of eliminations, with even the team's healer, Baptiste, accumulating 61 kills. In stark contrast, the enemy Tracer boasted a whopping 114 eliminations and over 26,000 damage. Most of Onion Head's teammates seemed to have joined the match as backfills, but the statistics underscored the severe imbalance in the Overwatch 2 encounter.

The Overwatch 2 community sympathized with Onion Head upon reading their post, sharing their own tales of similarly frustrating matches and expressing their exasperation with the prevalence of such experiences. Many players were irked by the fact that Onion Head was penalized for leaving the game, particularly given the deceptive tactics employed by the enemy team.

However, some players noted that Onion Head's 30-minute suspension was not solely a consequence of this specific match. Under Overwatch 2's new Quick Play leaving penalties, players receive a 10-minute suspension after exiting four out of their last 20 games and a 30-minute penalty for leaving six or more. Nonetheless, the general consensus was that Onion Head should not have been penalized in this particular instance. Hopefully, Overwatch 2 will implement measures to prevent such situations in the future, ensuring a fair and enjoyable gaming experience for all.
