Gabe Newell attended the Breakfest Morning Show in New Zealand, where he talked about his time in the country. According to Valve directors, he traveled to New Zealand back in March 2020. There he and a few friends planned to relax and celebrate the release of Half-Life: Alyx. At the same time, the country's authorities introduced restrictions in connection with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Newell's friends noted that they had two days to leave the country, but they chose to stay. As a result, the company spent almost 5 months in New Zealand.

In the show, the CEO of Valve stressed that the country's authorities have done everything possible to protect their citizens and visiting tourists. He thanked the residents of the country and the authorities for their hospitality. In gratitude, the CEO of Valve decided to host the We Love Aotearoa entertainment event.

We Love Aotearoa will run for 2 days and will start on August 15th. At the event, visitors will see family entertainment programs, virtual reality stands and a concert on two stages. Check out We Love Aotearoa for a list of the artists who will perform at the impromptu festival.
