Intel plans to build two factories to compete with TSMC and Samsung

Intel plans to start building two new factories in Arizona, which will help the company not only expand its own production, but also start working with third-party customers, which will lead to competition in the market with such giants as TSMC and Samsung.

This construction represents an investment of about $ 20 billion, which is expected to create more than 3,000 permanent high-tech, high-wage jobs; more than 3,000 construction jobs; and about 15,000 local long-term jobs.

According to the CEO of the company, Intel has almost mastered the 7 nm process technology. Gelsinger also stressed that the first customer crystal will be ready in the next quarter.

A new Intel Foundry Services division will be set up to work with third-party customers, reporting directly to Gelsinger and handling processor contract manufacturing for US and European customers. At the same time, he clarified that until 2023 the corporation will use the capacities of competitors for the production of its products in order to smooth out the problems in the transition to new standards.
