Cyberpunk 2077 source code hacked and stolen reportedly

According to several sources, the hacked and stolen source codes of CD Project Red, the developer of the hit games Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3, may have already been sold. Cybersecurity company KELA has announced that the auction, allegedly created by hackers, has been closed. Several hours later, this information was confirmed by another, more authoritative source.

CD Project Red confirmed for the first time that the source code and personal documents were hacked and stolen for ransom on Tuesday, February 9th. The Polish studio was adamant that it would not negotiate with the hackers. CD Project Red also promised fans that their personal data would not be harmed.

A day later, on Wednesday, February 10, the source code of the card game Witcher GWENT was leaked on the Internet, and the hackers began trading: the starting price of the source codes and internal documents was $ 1 million, with a minimum step of $ 500,000 and an instant buyback price of $ 7 million.

Who bought the source codes - and for how much - is still unclear. CD Project Red also made no official announcement. It is unclear why and why the hacker attacked the developer, although one theory suggests that this is an act of revenge for the failed release of Cyberpunk 2077.
