Atari is planning to acquire Digital Eclipse to bolster its retro gaming ambitions

Atari is planning to acquire the studio Digital Eclipse, located in California, USA, which specializes in remastering and restoring classic games. The deal could amount to $20 million, including $6.5 million in cash and stock upon completion, with an additional $13.5 million to be paid in cash over the next 10 years based on Digital Eclipse's future performance.

Atari asserts that this acquisition will further support their growth strategy, focused on retro gaming, following their earlier acquisition of Nightdive Studios, which also specializes in reviving retro games.

Atari's CEO, Wade Rosen, emphasized that Digital Eclipse is a leader in their field, known for their deep dedication and respect for the gaming industry's history and their critically acclaimed projects based on historical franchises. Wade Rosen also highlighted the alignment between Digital Eclipse and Nightdive with Atari's vision and mission.

Digital Eclipse has previously worked on projects such as Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary, Mega Man Legacy Collection, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, and Disney Classic Games Collection. President and Creative Director of Digital Eclipse, Mike Mika, expressed confidence in continuing their successful collaboration and creating exciting new projects for fans.
