China's Ministry of Labor and Social Security has unveiled professional qualification standards for esports players and six other emerging professions. The standards for esports players clarify professional activities and knowledge levels and are expected to help improve professional training and assessment of skills in this area, the ministry said.

China's Ministry of Labor expects the standards to improve training and skill assessment in this area. In 2020, China counted 488 million cybersportsmen, which is 9.65% more than in 2019. The data is provided by the China Audio, Video and Digital Publishing Association's Game Publishing Working Committee and the China Game Development Research Institute in a joint report.

Other recently released professional qualification standards cover occupations such as operations chain manager, senior ability assessor, urban rail service personnel, and ship lock and lift operators.

Note that 38 new professions have been recognized in China since 2019, and official vocational qualification standards have been promulgated for nine new professions.
