Former assistant coach of Evil Geniuses spoke about the relationship with Stewie2K
A well-known French journalist and neL insider interviewed EVY, who was most recently an assistant head coach on the Evil Geniuses team. During a candid conversation, the 27-year-old French specialist revealed the details of his time at the club, and also touched on the topic of Stewie2K's arrogant and inappropriate behavior.
I did not take part in the creation of the composition. There was this story with valde instead of RUSH, but when I got there, the base was already there: CeRq, Brehze, Stewie2K, autimatic. At first on paper, before I met them, I thought it was a shame.
maLeK immediately said that he did not want to see Stewie2K as a captain and that he was not suitable for this role. However, other people, including the management of Evil Geniuses, said that Stewie2K should be on the team and that they believe in him. maLeK didn't really want to sign with Stewie2K, but the organization insisted, "We want him, he's a superstar, he won a major, he's the best player in the US and so on."

First we had a bootcamp in Katowice to prepare for BLAST, 30 days in a hotel. These are workouts every day, one after the other, the classic days of a professional team. At first we felt that it would be difficult.
The French specialist told how he and the rest of the coaching staff spent the first weeks of working with the team.
The organization has made it clear that maLeK will get the reins, carte blanche to change players, install its own system, and so on. Except for that first day of practice, when maLeK and I look at each other and get shocked. Simply put, in terms of attitude, it looked like playing on FACEIT. And we didn't understand why Stewie2K didn't make time to chat, he was just having fun and raging. maLeK, on the other hand, loves discipline and a good attitude, so we thought we should point them in the right direction. The very next morning we had this discussion, explaining that what we saw was wrong. And from that moment on, everything went downhill.
Stewie2K stopped saying hello to maLeK when we entered the room starting on day 5-6. When maLeK spoke, he was turned back to his computer, not listening to him. Sometimes Stewie2K listened to maLeK, and then turned away and did not answer. One of the worst things I've seen is the failure of tactical pauses. maLeK asks for a tactical pause and Stewie2K says no. I've never seen anything like this, not since the first official game. We looked at each other and did not understand anything.
Every day we talked about it with each other to find solutions, maLeK had a plan and he trusted the upper management that everything would change and that we should keep the team. Of course, he was fed up with Stewie2K.
EVY also paid attention to the mood of the rest of the North American team. According to him, not everyone agreed with Stewie2K's position, but they were not ready to go into direct conflict with the captain.
However, Brehze was kind of neutral, CeRq was willing to listen, autimatic was on Stewie2K's side, and RUSH was trying to connect. There were two groups there and I saw some unspeakable things in terms of the captain's attitude. I'm not going to name them, but we're on the equivalent of level 10 with FACEIT when someone gives up after the 2nd round. This was very difficult to live with. When you challenged them to speak, they had a well-honed gaslight-like reaction: "I don't understand why this is so important, I don't see what the problem is."
I remember I was the team coach at ESL Pro League Season 15 because maLeK got sick. Nicole Lapointe, CEO of Evil Geniuses, was with us. I'm behind them trying to motivate the team and to be honest, he just stopped calling. In the presence of the CEO. And she sees that he no longer leads the team. It became clear that finding Stewie2K in the team is a contractual and financial matter. I'm surprised Nicole didn't do anything about it.
When maLeK explained the problems, he threw videos, and when any organization would respond by asking for an explanation and talking about it directly, our leader would say: "This is unacceptable, I'm going to do something." But he didn't do anything. They talked about plans to stay permanently in Europe and so on. At the last moment, they switched places and put obstacles in the way of maLeK. They had a plan to go to the bootcamp for two and a half months, not play any official games and get back in shape. It's good to be in "submarine mode", but if you don't have any tournaments for two and a half months, how do you keep the players motivated? A lot of things were wrong, and maLeK lost his temper and just said: "Stop, you're doing shit, do what I asked you to do, it's not normal and so on." He was right for six months, and when he got up and demanded that he stop talking nonsense, it was all over.
At the end of the interview, the French specialist spoke about the choice that Evil Geniuses faced. According to him, the organization chose between kick maLeK or Stewie2K, but ultimately decided to part ways with the coaching staff.
maLeK himself sat on the bench, and Evil Geniuses wanted to part ways with him. As for me, I get up in the morning and get a message from a friend: "I hope you are doing well." I was always told, but I never believed it, that Americans are very hypocritical. However, I learned about my departure from the official announcement on Twitter.
The main idea for the future was to part ways with Stewie2K. We could have kept Stewie2K as a player, although he could have challenged authority, but it could have worked. We stuck in no matter what. I'm not going to speak for the rest of the players, but parting ways with Stewie2K would pretty much be possible. If they shoot with the current lineup, then I will leave CS, because it will mean that I am a clown.
Recall that the North American esports organization Evil Geniuses announced the parting with its coaching staff in early May. Since then, the club has not found new specialists, signing two line-ups Carpe Diem and Party Astronauts along the way.
